We were hiking the Via Francigena and wanted a place near the trail - this property fit the bill. This is an older property that is very well maintained. very close to a large plaza with many restaurants, but if you're up for a bit of a walk, the older part of town is worth a look. Our room was large, clean and comfortable with a window that looked out onto the hotel's garden. The breakfast was exceptional! It was served in a large dining room with an attentive staff. As foods ran out, they were replaced with fresh food. Everything was nicely prepared. Even if you're not hiking the Via, be sure to take a walk along the river Elsa. It's beautiful! Just be sure to wear a good pair of shoes as there are a number of stone bridges to cross and you'll want good traction.

The bedroom was super clean as well as the bathroom. Towels were cleaned if indicated which is great to reduce water consumption. Breakfast time was ideal, too. The location in the center of Colle and very close to the bus stop to go to Florence makes the hotel an ideal choice. Breakfast was good with the option to request for macchiato, capuccino or espresso.

The host was very friendly and helpful and enthusiastically responded to all of our questions. The hotel staff made you feel like they really wanted you to be there. The breakfast was great and had a good variety of items. The room was very clean and the bed was firm and comfortable.

The hotel has a special appeal, it used to be a paper mill and it still holds much of the old charm. It has a great location with a view of the old town, close to an intercity bus station, a perfect starting point for visiting the whole of Tuscany. If travelling by car, it offers a nice garage. The lovely breakfast and helpful staff add to the perfect experience in La Vecchia Cartiera.

The breakfast was good, with a decent selection. The espresso was good. The bed was comfortable, there was hot water. The staff was very helpful. The location was excellent for exploring other towns in Florence. We ate dinner in the town after being out all day. (FYI excellent restaurant: L'angolo di Sapia Osteria Wine Bar, in the old town.)

The staff at La Vecchia Cartiera was very personable and made checking-in a pleasant experience. We arrived on a drizzly night and had had a slightly stressful drive. The person at the front desk oriented us and gave us a few easy to reach - walkable - suggestions for good dinners. The hotel is large, since it's in an old paper mill, but did not feel impersonal. Breakfast is included in the price, and it was fresh, including some local jams and good bread. Would have liked to spend more time exploring Colle di Val d'Elsa, as the town looked quite pretty.

The hotel was good value, had an excellent breakfast and friendly staff. Admittedly yes it is a bit old fashioned but don’t let this put you off staying if you’re after a simple stay. The breakfast was great to fuel our hike!

Lovely old hotel with friendly staff and everything you needed for a comfortable stay in Val Col D’Esta. We were on the Via Francigena and staff advised us to walk straight to river which was great advice missing some road stretches.

Perfect stop for pilgrims! It's a historic location, I appreciate the "bones" of the place. Staff was super helpful/kind. Breakfast was good. Great location. Lobby, sitting areas were nice.

Stayed one night while walking the Via Francigena. Just what you want in a hotel. Traditional and comfortable. We were made to feel very welcome as soon as we arrived. Crème caramel as a breakfast option was my husband’s highlight.
